"We cannot remain silent. No one can remain silent when there is an ongoing genocide and when people are denied the most basic human needs," Greta Thunberg said at a protest in Leipzig, Germany on Wednesday.
The 21-year-old Swedish climate activist made a surprise appearance in Leipzig to denounce Israel's war on Gaza and said that "to stand with Palestine is to be human".
She had previously spoken up in support of Palestine in Amsterdam a few months ago, and faced criticism from many in the climate movement for this - especially in Germany, where criticising Israel comes at a high price.
The German branch of Fridays for Future was notably criticised for allowing racist attacks and harassment of pro-Palestine activists in recent nationwide protests against the far-right in Germany, the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party.
